Service work, Holocaust Memorial, National WWII Museum, and an airboat ride

The day began with three hours of meaningful service, followed by a visit to the New Orleans Holocaust memorial in honor of Yom Hashoah. After that, the group hopped back into the vans and headed to the National World War II Museum, a superb compilation of the Pacific, European, and American war fronts. Then came dinner and an airboat ride. Despite the whip of the wind and flying bug menagerie on the boat, the group enjoyed itself immensely. Not that this was such a difficult feat; the students were given the rare opportunity to take in the beauty of the evening sky and even hold baby alligators!

“When you think about a swamp, you would not expect the beauty that we saw today. When we stepped onto the airboat, it was as if we had entered another world." -Juliette Kashani

"Internally stepping through the blurred complexities of history is a sure way to reflect on one's own past, present, and future. This sentiment patently held true today at the New Orleans Holocaust Memorial as well as the National Work War II Museum." -Alexandra Orbuch
